Fitness Resolutions – 4 Ways to Keep Going

When it comes to making changes in our lives it seems that most individuals are going to create a New Year’s resolution related to fitness.  This is very common but that does not mean that individuals are going to follow through with these fitness resolutions.  In fact, most people are not going to stick with the plans that they have created.  However, there are a few things that someone can do in order to ensure that they are able to stick with the fitness goals that they have set up.

One thing that we found from surveying Columbus workout locations is that many gyms have a high turnover rate after their initial membership sign up.  Because of this many Upper Arlington gyms and fitness centers will often offer great rates every January to lure customers in to a contract, knowing that they won’t last long.

fitness-resolutionAt Body Mechanix we like to help people set goals and actually follow through with these goals.  We know that setting a goal is easy, but maintaining it is the hard part.  As certified personal trainers are success is only as good as what we can do for our clients.  If someone does well on our program and reaches their fitness goal it only makes us look good as our proof is in our client’s success.

With that being said we would like to give four ways for our clients to create and maintain their fitness goals.

Pinpoint your changes- First and foremost, when it comes to fitness you may find that there are a number of changes that you can make.  Some people are going to become very ambitious and set a number of goals related to several different changes.  This is not healthy and it is certainly not the best way to guarantee that resolutions are kept.  Therefore, it will always to select one thing to change at a time.  Yes, you may have a number of habits that you want to get rid of but that does not mean that you should change all of them at one time. You are going to see that you will have a lot more success if you work on one habit at a time.

Document your progress- Next, take the time to write things down.  Why?  You will see that when you have things on paper, and you can see them, you will be a lot more willing to follow through and remain on track.  This could be because you are going too held more accountable for what you are doing.  There have been a lot of studies that have shown how journaling food and exercise resulted in higher fitness success.

Find support- At Body Mechanix this is one of our main objectives as not only a personal trainer but a coach.  Most people allow other things to get in the way of their workouts and make workout excuses for not following their routine.  Our goal is to be the support system that one needs to stay on track.  It is easy to miss a few workouts and let that snowball to eventually quitting your routine.  We created the 90 day challenge with this in mind as it gets people to work towards a goal.

Think Positive- As part of our overall philosophy and approach we like our clients to think positive when it comes to working out.  The power of “thinking positive” is crucial to attaining your fitness goals. All of the outsides stressors that one may have should be kept at the door when working out.  For those who have never tried a regular workout program, weight training is one of the best stress relievers known to man.  Besides the workout program we also have one of the most respectable Columbus massage therapy programs in the area.

I hope these tips will help you formulate a goal for your fitness resolutions.  At Body Mechanix our goal is to make this process an easy one and provide you with all the support and steps that you need to reach these goals.  If you are interested in learning more about what we have to offer, contact us here for a free consultation.
