Improve Health by Eliminating Soda From Your Diet

When most people think about nutrition and personal health they automatically think about what they are eating.  Yes, this is important because you do need to know what you are putting into your body and how it can affect you.  However, you should also be thinking about what you are drinking.  This is not something that many people will think about.  Here are some of the reasons why drinking soda is not good for your health.

First and foremost, you must realize that soda does not have any nutritional value for your body.  There is absolutely no reason for you to drink it.  It will not offer you any vitamins or minerals.  If you are counting calories in order to get into shape then it will be very important for you to realize that soda truly is empty calories.

Second, soda is only going to contribute to many of the health problems that are facing the world right now.  This includes diabetes and obesity.  This is something to keep in mind if you have a family history of either one of these things.  When I tell some of my Columbus personal training clients this they are usually somewhat surprised.  A lot of people drink soda without giving any thought to it’s contents or it’s possible health risks.  You should also know that studies have shown that diet soda is not going to be any better for you.  It has been found to contribute to hunger and more difficulties getting rid of extra weight.  So imagine this, you’re trying to lose weight by drinking diet soda and it’s actually making you hungrier by drinking it.  Pretty counter productive right?

soda-is-badThird, there are a lot of people that do not realize that soda can actually decrease the density of their bones.  This is because the drink is going to have phosphorus and caffeine in it.  It is believed that both of these will contribute to osteoporosis.  Most individuals are not aware of this and they do not think about that when they are drinking soda all of the time.

It will be very important for you to start considering just how much soda you are drinking in place of other drinks that your body needs.  Stop and think about the soda you are consuming and what you should be drinking instead of it.  For example, are you having soda with your snacks?  If so you will want to start drinking water.  Taking the time to make small and simple steps like this can be really beneficial to you and your body.

It is easy to see that there is no nutritional value or benefit to the soda that you are consuming on a regular basis.  Therefore, you are going to want to start making some changes to the beverages that you are putting into your body.  Those that have children will want to start encouraging them to consume more milk.  It is full of vitamins and minerals that are needed in order to have strong, healthy bones.  Stop and consider just how much milk you drink.  You may need to start consuming more milk as well.  There are also a lot of milk substitutes out there for people that don’t like the taste of milk or have lactose intolerance.

Now, there are a lot of people that will continue to drink soda because they want some of the caffeine.  If you are in that situation then you will want to think about consuming tea.  This is a great way to get the caffeine that you want.  However, it has been found that all tea has antioxidants in it.  These are thought to be very effective at helping the body fight off any damage that may be headed its way.  Powdered drink mixes can be a great alternative as well if you are interested in something with a little bit of flavor.
